British Airways to increase fuel surcharges on all flights

LONDON - British Airways PLC says it will raise its fuel surcharge on all flights.

BA says the increases reflect the high price of oil, which has flirted with US$120 a barrel in recent days.

Air Canada willing to help?for a price

Interesting story today about how Air Canada is launching a new service for travellers stranded at destinations beyond the airline’s control.

Ben Smith, Air Canada’s chief commercial officer, said the new service will help customers get on their way more quickly and smoothly when disruptions occur.

FORT WORTH, Texas - The cancellation of thousands of flights this week will cost American Airlines tens of millions of dollars, the company’s chief executive said Thursday, but he said the carrier can withstand the losses.

American said it cancelled another 570 flights Friday and disruptions will continue through Saturday as it continues to check electrical wiring in all 300 of its MD-80 aircraft.

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. Transportation Security Administration says it will change they way its officers search passengers with body piercings after a woman complained she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane.

Mandi Hamlin, 37, had demanded an apology and her Los Angeles-based attorney sent a letter to the TSA this week requesting a civil rights investigation.

With a wag of the finger, Delta produces safety video

ATLANTA - Before YouTube, Katherine Lee was just another pretty flight attendant who worked for the third-largest U.S. airline.

In April, up to 80 million Delta Air Lines passengers worldwide will know her as the face of Delta’s newest safety video, in which Lee walks flyers through government-mandated safety instructions with a smile and a naughty-looking wag of the finger.
